DURHAM -- Durham Parks and Recreation will begin accepting registration for its summer day camps and specialty camps on March 20.
Registration will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at multiple recreation and neighborhood centers throughout Durham.
Summer Day Camp itself will run June 14-Aug. 13 from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. daily.
Traditional day camps are for ages 5-12, but teen and specialty camps are available as well. Proof of age is required at registration. The first week of camp must be paid in full at registration, plus deposits to reserve subsequent weeks. A sliding fee scale is available to those who qualify.

Perdue names new Person DA
RALEIGH -- Gov. Beverly Perdue on Wednesday appointed former Superior Court Judge James M. Long to serve as acting district attorney in Person and Caswell counties.
Long will complete the term of Joel Brewer, who retired March 1.
After Brewer's resignation, it was learned he is under investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation.
"Judge Long will give the people of Person and Caswell counties the leadership and experience needed in an acting district attorney," said Perdue. "I appreciate his willingness to serve."
Judge Long served as a recorder's court judge for Caswell County from 1964-1970 and as superior court judge from 1970-1994. He received his undergraduate degree from the UNC Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar, and his law degree from the UNC School of Law.
Habitat gets $5K gift
OXFORD -- Granville County Habitat for Humanity has received $5,000 from End Time Christian Fellowship Church in Creedmoor to help purchase materials needed to build the next Habitat home in Granville County.
End Time Christian Fellowship is the place of worship for the Crawford family, who were chosen to purchase the next Habitat home. DURHAM -- The Durham Chapter of AARP #189 will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Center for Senior Life, 406 Rigsbee Ave.
Anyone 50 or above is invited to attend.

Senate hopefuls to appear Mon.
DURHAM -- Durham for Obama will host a U.S. Senate Democratic candidate forum and endorsement process on Monday.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's A.M.E. Church, 2521 Fayetteville Road.
Democratic Senate candidates Cal Cunningham, Ken Lewis, Elaine Marshall and Marcus Williams are expected to be on hand. They will face off in a May 4 primary.
