DURHAM — The Volunteer Center of Durham is coordinating the 2010 Great Human Race on March 27 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The annual 5K Race and 5K Community Walk is a fundraising event for area nonprofits.

Race director Tammy Dorfman said Tuesday that more than 140 groups had registered to participate in the 15th annual event.

Entertainment will be provided by the TROSA band, the Durham Chorale and the Northern High School Step Team. A children’s area has been expanded to include an inflatable playground with obstacle course and bounce house in addition to face painting and other activities. Last year’s event hosted some 3,000 participants.

The 5K (3.1 mile) route traverses downtown Durham and begins and ends at the DBAP.

Registration will begin at 7 am. The 5K Race begins at 8:30 a.m. and the Community Walk commencing once runners pass the ballpark entrance. For more information, to register and/or make a donation for the 2010 Great Human Race, visit http://www.thevolunteercenter.org.

Runners may pre-register at http://www.active.com for $20 before March 25 and $25 after that date. All runners will receive a 2010 Great Human Race t-shirt and goodie bags in addition to use of a chip to record their race time.

The public is invited.
