Current staff levels planned

DURHAM -- The majority of companies in Durham plan to maintain their current staff levels, according to a quarterly employment survey by job recruitment firm Manpower on Tuesday.

From April to June, 73 percent of the companies interviewed plan to maintain their current workforce levels, while 17 percent of the companies interviewed plan to hire more workers and 7 percent expect to make cuts. Three percent of the companies are not certain of their hiring plans.

The Durham survey shows a more positive local employment outlook than the national outlook.

Chimerix is based in Durham and has received $56 million in venture capital.
