Farmers Market has new manager

CHAPEL HILL -- Andrea Wood is the new market manager at the South Estes Farmers Market outside A Southern Season at University Mall.

The market's new hours are 10 a.m.-noon Saturdays through March; 8 a.m.-noon Saturdays in April through November; and Tuesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. from May through November. Support AHA at Jiffy Lube shops

CHAPEL HILL -- Customers have until March 14 to help support the American Heart Association with a $3 donation at participating Jiffy Lube service centers. All funds will be donated to the local American Heart Association office.

In return, donors will receive a Maintenance Partners for Life book with more than $100 in savings. Starting this year, customers can also make an online donation by visiting www.JiffyLubeGoesRed.com. Both Jiffy Lube and the American Heart Association are optimistic about this year's fundraising, despite tough economic times. Last year's total funds raised exceeded the previous year, in spite of the economic downturn.

Barefoot dance classes planned

HILLSBOROUGH -- Registration is available for barefoot ballroom dance lessons now by contacting Reconciliation Dance Studio in Hillsborough for a six-week program.

Instructor Kat McGee has been teaching ballroom dance since 1978 and has held National Certification for Teaching since 1980.

In addition to basic footwork, participants are introduced to styling and presentation. McGee typically introduces four different dances, ranging from the waltz to the merengue. Classes are held on Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., starting March 4 and ending April 8. This series will be taught at the Beginner/Refresher level. The cost for this series is $50 per person.

Green Plus to host webinar

CHAPEL HILL -- Green Plus is hosting the first in a series of educational webinars for businesses March 3 -- "Triple Your Bottom Line: The Business Case for Sustainability" -- at 11 a.m. March 3.

Registration is required, but attendance is free for Green Plus participants, $29 for Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce members, $99 for non-members.

BrownFlynn, a large Cleveland consulting firm, will present the webinar. Chamber members who sign up for the webinar for $29 can receive a coupon for $99 off the already reduced rate of $350 to join Green Plus.

Chamber session on marketing

CHAPEL HILL -- Libbie Hough, owner of Communication Matters, will teach participants how to affordably create a consistent look and feel in marketing materials and how to encourage co-workers or employees to use logos and color selections in a consistent manner when she leads the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce Small Business Roundtable from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 3.

Hough has been in the business of communications for more than 20 years, and in 2001, she launched Communication Matters. She works with private nonprofits, small- to medium-sized businesses, and university-based clients to address their marketing communication needs.

Breakfast Briefing topic is financing

CHAPEL HILL -- The March Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Briefing -- "Small Business Capital: How to Get It" -- will provide attendees with a comprehensive picture of the different financing options and programs available to small businesses. A panel of financial experts and bankers will detail what lenders look for when making a loan, what financing options are available to your business or organization, and how to apply for capital.

The briefing, set for 7:30-9:30 a.m. March 5, is hosted by Squids Restaurant and Oyster Bar and co-sponsored by Chapel Hill Restaurant Group and RBC Bank. Registration is required, and tickets are $10 per person, which includes a full breakfast.

Adam Eve has a record February
