DURHAM -- Durham County Library will host a talk about photographer Hugh Mangum at 3 p.m. today at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St.

Retired Duke University fine arts photographer David Page will discuss Mangum, a Durham native and itinerant photographer. Mangum practiced his art in the late 1800s-early 1900s in North Carolina and Virginia. The event is free and open to the public.

According to the Eno River Association Web site, Mangum was a singular and talented person with a sense of humor and design, and a fascination for the eccentric and bizarre, for gypsies and the burlesque, for photographic props and extraordinary hats. Glass negatives of Mangum's housed at Duke University attest to the quality of his work.
