A fond farewell

For the past 10 years Connie Campanaro has brought our Historic Carolina Theatre to the success it enjoys today. As she steps down, I wish to express my deepest gratitude to Connie for her resilience and determination to accomplish what at times seemed impossible, such as reducing the burden of debt to zero, growing programs and audience, promoting access to the arts through arts education and community engagement, developing young talent into full-time professional staff, and providing stability for other cultural nonprofits that have come to rely on the Carolina Theatre as a resource. Today, people from throughout the region are drawn to the Carolina for inspiration, for learning and for fun.

As Connie explores her life's next chapter, I wish there were space to recount the "nine lives" of our historic theatre and to list all of the people who have given so much to keep it alive. Under the leadership of the Carolina Theatre's Board of Trustees; with the support of volunteers, donors and fans, and the City of Durham, the Carolina will continue to thrive under the leadership of President-elect Bob Nocek. Bob is a seasoned professional and will introduce exciting new ideas. I enthusiastically welcome Bob and will give him my full support. The theater will continue to rely on the support of its host community for support and patronage. Will all of us working together, we can keep our 84-year-old Carolina Theatre thriving for generations to come

An ungrateful nation

A small Christian group goes to Haiti to help poor orphans but they get tossed into jail, just because their papers are not perfect. After all the millions we've donated!

Veteran friends all say our president should send in the Marines to rescue them before it's too late. Maybe Bill Clinton could save them, like he did with those Chinese-American ladies.

Where is our ambassador to Haiti? Never again will we donate anything to that cruel, ungrateful nation!
