DURHAM -- The first-degree murder trial for Shannon Elizabeth Crawley was halted Tuesday because the defendant's lawyer was sick.

Proceedings are expected to resume this morning.

Crawley is charged with killing Denita Monique Smith in 2007, at Campus Crossings apartments on East Cornwallis Road.

Smith was a 25-year-old graduate student at N.C. Central University. She was engaged to Greensboro police officer Jermeir Jackson-Stroud, who last week testified about a past sexual relationship with Crawley.

Jurors on Tuesday were expected to watch Crawley tell her side of the story during a police interview videotaped in 2007.

On Monday, jurors heard Durham Police Department investigator Shawn Pate talk about going to Greensboro to speak with Crawley about the murder.

Defense lawyer C. Scott Holmes has told jurors Jackson-Stroud murdered Smith.
