From staff reports
CHAPEL HILL -- Paperhand Puppet Intervention presents its 2nd annual winter show, "Love and Robots," which is being billed as "a puppet rock opera in 0s and 1s."
The show combines Paperhand's popular puppetry with mechanical marvels, smart shadows and an original score by Jimmy Magoo and the Paperhand Band.
Here's the story line, according to organizers:
The story is set in a far dystopian future. The Messenger is a robot who has received a message from the divine. His attempts to spread that message weave an epic tale of love, loss, sacrifice, triumph and redemption.
"Love and Robots" will be performed at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro Feb. 25 through Feb. 28; and March 5, through March 7. Shows will be held nightly at 8 p.m., with a matinee both Sundays (Feb. 28 and March 7) at 3 p.m. Contact The Arts Center for tickets and more information at (919) 929-2787 or www.artscenterlive.org.
Those interested in a different venue can go to the Paperhand Puppet studio at the Saxapahaw Community Center to see the show March 12 through March 14; and March 19 through March 21. All shows are at 8 p.m. Tickets for Saxapahaw shows are $15 at the door.
Donovan Zimmerman and Jan Burger founded Paperhand Puppet Intervention in 1998. In addition to their annual winter shows and outdoor summer shows, the group performs and creates puppets for parades, pageants, schools and other events throughout the Triangle year-round. Paperhand Puppet creations are found at music festivals across the state, at Artsplosure and at First Night Raleigh annually to ring in each New Year.
