New releases coming to DVD Tuesday:

"Coco Before Chanel"

(PG-13, 110 minutes)

As the film opens, two young girls are being deposited by their father at an orphanage in France in the late 19th century. They are Gabrielle and Adrienne Chanel, who, as young women, take up singing in cafes and pursuing wealthy men as a means of getting on in the world. The prospect-free Gabrielle (Audrey Tautou) presents herself at the door of tienne Balsan (Beno t Poelvoorde), a wealthy racehorse owner. Living as a kept woman, Gabrielle -- nicknamed Coco for her trademark song -- alternately indulges and chafes at a lifestyle that entails being constantly available sexually yet kept out of sight when society comes calling. Contains sexual content and smoking. In French with subtitles. DVD Extras: Commentary with director; featurettes.

"Good Hair"

(PG-13, 95 minutes)

"Daddy, how come I don't have good hair?" It might be the most loaded and universal question within the African-American community. When asked by his then-5-year-old daughter, the question propels comedian Chris Rock throughout a hilariously funny documentary.

Rock embarked on a madcap tour through beauty and barber shops, the Bronner Bros. Hair Show and finally India, which produces the most coveted locks for hair extensions. Along the way he interviews celebrities in search of that perennially vexing question: What is it about black people's hair that freaks out white people? The film is such a rollicking, thoroughly entertaining ride that it's easy to take for granted just how easy Rock makes it look. Contains profanity, including sex and drug references, and brief partial nudity.

Also: "Dirty Harry Collection," "Goodfellas: 20th Anniversary Edition," "Lincoln Heights: The Complete First Season," "Lola Montes" and "Remarkable Power."
