Incumbent Bob Atwater, who lives south of Chapel Hill in Chatham County, filed to run for re-election for the Dist. 18 Senate seat, which includes Chatham, Durham and Lee counties. He is running for his fourth term in the N.C. Senate.
Cathy Sanford Wright filed as a Republican to run for the N.C. House Dist. 54 seat, which includes Chatham, Moore and Orange counties. Speaker of the House Joe Hackney currently occupies the seat. Hackney had not filed for reelection as of Tuesday.
Wright lives in Governor's Club in Chatham County.
