DURHAM -- A man arrested in the slaying of his pregnant wife in 2005 is expected to be extradited from Idaho to Durham to face a murder charge, Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez said Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a friend of victim Janet Abaroa said he had noticed patterns of "bizarre behavior" by her husband, Raven Abaroa, before and after the slaying at the couple's home at 2606 Ferrand Drive in northern Durham.
Abaroa was charged Monday with murder in the death of Janet Abaroa, 25, who was home with their 6-month-old son, Kaiden, when she was stabbed twice. She was in the early stages of pregnancy.
"A lot of people loved Janet," family friend Tim Dowd said from Smithfield, Va., Tuesday. "She was just a really neat kid, a great athlete, a great mother. It's just very sad."
Dowd said he befriended the couple when they lived in Smithfield in 2002. "They were a young couple in town, members of my wife's church, and we had them over for dinner and kind of adopted them, because they had no family or friends in the immediate area."
But Dowd said he noticed "certain patterns of behavior" on Raven's part "that just didn't add up. As the case unfolds and perhaps goes to trial, those things will be out there," he said.
One example he cited was an interview Raven gave after his wife was killed and he had moved to Utah.
