Bring donations to UPS Store

CARRBORO — The UPS Store at Carrboro Plaza is participating in the Town Planner Calendar’s fourth annual Food Drive, launched amid difficult economic times during which there has been a 30 percent increase in demand of local food pantries.

Food collected during the drive will be divided between the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina and the Inter-Faith Council.

Hours at the UPS Store at Carrboro Plaza, 104R N.C. 54 West, are 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Visit www.theupsstore.com/3651.htm for more information.

The UPS Store also is raising funds to purchase books for local children in celebration of National March Into Literacy Month. It will sell donation cards for the Toys for Tots Literacy Program to help bring awareness to the issue of children’s literacy and remind families of the importance of reading together.

The Toys for Tots Literacy Program is a year-round initiative of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation that offers our nation’s most economically disadvantaged children direct access to books and educational resources that will enhance their ability to read and to communicate effectively.

Every $1 donation helps the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation buy a book for a deserving child. Since 2005, The UPS Store network has raised $1.5 million for The Toys for Tots Program.

Caucus endorses Frank Roche

CHAPEL HILL — The Independence Caucus, a citizens’ movement known for its efforts to hold both political parties more accountable, has given its endorsement to congressional candidate, Frank Roche.

“I am pleased and honored to have the unsolicited endorsement of the Independence Caucus,” Roche said. “Their focus on bringing back responsible government limited by the U.S. Constitution lines up well with the Roche for Congress campaign. I look forward to having the Independence Caucus as a partner.”

Roche is a Republican candidate running for the U.S. House of Representatives seat currently held by longtime incumbent Democrat Rep. David Price.
