Farrah Fawcett's son going back to drug rehab after jail

From wire reports

LOS ANGELES -- A judge in Los Angeles is sending the troubled son of Ryan O'Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett back to rehab after more than a month in jail.

The judge placed Redmond O'Neal back on probation and sentenced to an intense residential rehab program during a brief hearing Thursday. The 25-year-old has been jailed since Dec. 29 for violating his probation on a previous drug conviction.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Tynan says if O'Neal succeeds at the rehab program, he will then be sent to a sober-living facility. He may eventually be granted passes to leave, but Tynan says the program will be "justifiably" severe.

O'Neal's attorney, Richard Pintal, says his client has made considerable progress while in jail and has earned another chance at rehab.

'Boston Legal' actor dies after SUV hits trees

DODGEVILLE, Wis. -- An actor who appeared on the TV show "Boston Legal" has been killed in an SUV crash in Wisconsin.

The Iowa County Sheriff's Department says Justin Mentell was killed when his SUV went down an embankment off Highway 39 near Blanchardville and hit two trees.

The crash was reported around 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The sheriff's department says the 27-year-old from Waukegan, Ill., wasn't wearing a seat belt.

Mentell portrayed attorney Garrett Wells on "Boston Legal" from 2005 to 2006. According to the film database IMDb.com, he also was Terrell in the 2009 Disney movie "G-Force."

Jackson's doctor may be charged in his death

LOS ANGELES -- Michael Jackson's physician has arrived in Los Angeles in anticipation of a decision from the district attorney's office on whether to charge him for the singer's death, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Dr. Conrad Murray, who practices in Houston, arrived in Los Angeles last weekend and one of his lawyers, Edward Chernoff, plans to join him, spokeswoman Miranda Sevcik said.

"Dr. Murray is in Los Angeles for a dual purpose -- on family business and to be available for law enforcement," Sevcik said. "We're trying to be as cooperative as we can."

There is no official word on when an announcement about any charges might come. David Walgren, the deputy Los Angeles County district attorney handling the case, declined to comment Tuesday.

The district attorney's office has for weeks been working closely with Los Angeles Police Department investigators to build a case against Murray. Two law enforcement officials have told the AP that Murray is likely to be charged with involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's June 25 death from an anesthetic overdose.

The officials spoke only on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak about the case.
