FORT BRAGG -- Army Spec. Timothy M. Carter, III has deployed to Iraq to serve in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Operation Iraqi Freedom objectives focus on force protection, peacekeeping, stabilization, security and counter-insurgency operations as the Iraqi transitional governing bodies assume full sovereign powers to govern the peoples of Iraq.
Carter, a logistics specialist, is normally assigned to the 249th Quartermaster Company at Fort Bragg. He has served in the military for two years.
He is the son of Valerie Carter of East Cornwallis Road and a 2007 graduate of Hillside High School.
Shoun, John M.
LACKLAND AFB, Texas -- Air Force Airman 1st Class John M. Shoun has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
He completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Shoun earned distinction as an honor graduate.
He is the son of John Shoun of Cottonwood Drive.
Shoun graduated in 2004 from the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics and received a bachelor's degree in 2008 at UNC Greensboro.
McNeil, Tahri W.
FORT JACKSON, S.C. -- Army Pvt. Tahri W. McNeil has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
He is the brother of Keandra McNeil of Chance Road and a 2008 graduate of Southern High School.
