DURHAM -- The Jamaica Mission Team of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1320 Umstead Road, is sponsoring a Silent Auction/Dinner on Saturday, with all proceeds going to Haiti Disaster Relief through Luke's Mission, a Durham-based Christian nonprofit organization serving the poor of Haiti, www.lukesmission.com.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. Tickets will be available at the door.
The dinner will feature barbecue pork, chicken, sides and dessert. The silent auction and dinner will take place in the Family Life Center.
Spaghetti luncheon to benefit Haiti
DURHAM -- Grace Lutheran Church, 824 N. Buchanan Blvd., will be hosting a spaghetti luncheon on Sunday at 12:15 p.m.
There will be a free will offering taken at the lunch to support the Hait Earthquake Relief Effort. All money collected will be used to ship necessary items to Haiti through Lutheran World Relief.
The church also is collecting the following items to send to Haiti: canned food with pop-tops, Band-Aids, first aid/anti-bacterial ointment; washcloths, peanut butter, dry rice and dry beans.

Former ambassador from Haiti to Speak
DURHAM -- Jean Casimir, former ambassador from Haiti to the United States and to the Organization of American States, will speak on Sunday at 9:45 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, on the corner of Main and Roxboro streets.
He will share reflections on the situation in Haiti.
Casimir is a visiting scholar in the John Hope Franklin Center at Duke University. He is a professor at the Faculty of Human Sciences of the Universit
