Dave and Bonnie Thommarson of Home Instead Senior Care wish to thank Durham for helping the company reach out to seniors in our community through involvement in the 2009 Be a Santa to a Senior program.

Durham residents' generous participation made it possible for Santa to bring joy to the lives of seniors in individual homes and senior care facilities all over Durham.

Individual citizens, Sunday School Classes, and businesses provided many truly wonderful gifts for Christmas. When Home Instead Senior Care delivered gifts to one house the husband said, "Well, my wife is gone to pick up our medicine but, thank you, thank you!" and as he patted his chest he said, "We have the spirit!" A woman called Home Instead to express her thankfulness and said she received so many gifts in her gift bag she was even able to share Christmas with others.

Home Instead Senior Care wants to extend a special thank you to Upchurch Drugs and Optical, Medical Supply Super Store, and C & H Cafeteria for providing a place to put up the trees and collect the gifts.

"We thoroughly enjoyed working with all of you on Be a Santa to a Senior," the Thommarsons wrote in an e-mail. "Thank you so very much for your help in making this wonderful program such a success. We hope you will join us again with this worthy cause next year."
