Elvisfest is an annual celebration of the musical legacy of Elvis Presley. It's held on or near the birthday of the King of Rock and Roll (Jan. 8, 1935). Over the course of two nights, 20 bands (give or take) will each play a 40 minute set of the music of their choosing, but each band must incorporate into its set at least two Elvis songs. Musical styles vary widely and include punk, honky-tonk, rockabilly, psychobilly, country, and rock and roll. There is also an Elvis costume contest. A portion of the money raised will go to the Masonic Home for Children, an orphanage in Oxford. Elvisfest will take place at the Holiday Day Inn Chapel Hill at 1301 N. Fordham Blvd. The cost is $12 per night.
