Intersection changes Monday
RALEIGH -- The state Department of Transportation plans to modify the intersection of N.C. 57 and N.C. 157 (Guess Road) in Orange County on Monday to a four-way stop with full-time overhead red flasher.
The current setup has vehicles on N.C. 57 able to go through the intersection without stopping, while traffic on N.C. 157 has stop signs in both directions.
An NCDOT investigation of the intersection found traffic volumes and crash patterns warranted installing the additional stop signs on N.C. 57 and the overhead flasher. Crews will be installing stop bars and "stop ahead" pavement markings and signs on N.C. 57 to help alert and warn motorists of the new stop sign setup. Work will begin after Monday morning rush hour and it is expected to be finished by early afternoon.
