CHAPEL HILL -- The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company presents "Fondly Do We Hope ... Fervently Do We Pray," at 8 p.m. Jan. 15 at Memorial Hall on the UNC campus.
Tony Award-winning choreographer Bill Jones' ambitious new dance-theater work challenges and celebrates the legacy of Abraham Lincoln. "Fondly Do We Hope ... Fervently Do We Pray" is taken from Lincoln's second inaugural address, and the performance "will investigate a handful of key moments from his remarkable life, allowing song and memory to transport the audience to an emotional and intellectual place beyond the boundaries of space and time," according to the presenters.
By envisioning an America that might have been had Lincoln completed Reconstruction, Jones will expose the great distance between what is and what could have been. Tickets are $10-$75. For more information, visit http://www.carolinaperformingarts.org or call (919) 843-3333.
