County services closed today

HILLSBOROUGH — Orange County services that are typically open or operate on Saturdays will be closed today because of the inclement weather.

Services closed include the Animal Shelter, Solid Waste Convenience Centers, Seymour Center and Orange County Library (branches).

Orange Public Transportation will operate the dialysis route.

The Orange County landfill and all associated services (mulch sales, household hazardous waste, etc.) will be closed. Weather permitting, the landfill will open as normally scheduled, Monday

All five of the Orange County Solid Waste convenience centers will be closed today. Convenience centers will be open on a normal schedule Monday.

Come decorate holiday cookies

Chapel Hill — The Carolina Inn is hosting a holiday cookie decorating event Monday and Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Your children will find a wide array of holiday shapes and toppings to create their edible art at a Holiday Cookie Decorating Monday and Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Children 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

CHAPEL HILL — “If Walls Could Talk: A Behind-the-Scenes History of the Carolina Inn” is the topic for a lunch and presentation from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Carolina Inn is one of the oldest and most historic sites in Chapel Hill. Its walls hold stories of the history of the university and North Carolina, dating back more than a century. Join the Inn’s historian, Dr. Kenneth Zogry, for lunch and a fascinating “behind the scenes” PowerPoint presentation exploring this rich history.

Luncheon helps teach etiquette

CHAPEL HILL — A five-course dining tutorial, taught by certified etiquette and protocol professional Cecilia Budd Grimes, will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Carolina Inn.

Children 8 to 12 will learn dining do’s and don’ts. Each child will receive a certificate and “The Little Book of Etiquette” at the graduation ceremony following lunch.

Sunday dress code applies; jackets for boys (ties not required).

Reduced shuttle service Tuesday

CHAPEL HILL — Tar Heel Express shuttles will not operate from the University Mall park and ride lot for the men’s 7 p.m. basketball game Tuesday vs. Marshall.

The service will operate as normal from the park and ride lots at the Friday Center, Southern Village and Jones Ferry.

Make Christmas tree ornaments

CHAPEL HILL — Christmas tree decorating will be extra special with your children’s handmade ornaments.

This fun event for kids of all ages takes place Wednesday and Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Carolina Inn.

Tea at the inn Christmas Eve

CHAPEL HILL — Enjoy festive holiday decorations and music on Christmas Eve from 2 to 5 p.m. while the inn’s staff serves award-winning teas in vintage china cups and saucers, along with an array of savory tea sandwiches and delightful sweets.
