DURHAM -- Cricket Communications is sponsoring free rides on the Durham Area Transit Authority (DATA) and Capital Area Transit (CAT) bus systems all day today.

CAT is the Wake County system.

"Cricket is celebrating the holiday with a gift for you. We're not only offering free rides all day, but lots of entertainment and great prizes," said Hank Taylor, district director of Cricket Communications. "Working with DATA on this promotion reinforces that Cricket's unlimited product and DATA's unlimited ride passes are great ways to make limited dollars go farther."

In addition to enjoying the free rides, residents are encouraged to come out to Durham Station, 515 W. Pettigrew St., for fun activities, a radio remote from 3-5 p.m., and to register to win many great prizes including free bus fare and free cell phone accessories. In addition, some riders may win coupons good for cash cards, redeemable at Cricket stores in Durham.

"We're pleased to help Cricket Communications celebrate in a way that promotes the use of public transportation and helps residents save money in an environmentally friendly way," said Ieshia Robertson, public affairs specialist for the City of Durham.

Cricket Communications will also offer residents who visit Durham Station free worldwide calls. Each call has a three-minute limit.

Existing and new riders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with DATA bus routes by calling (919) 485-RIDE, using the trip planner on www.gotriangle.org, or picking up a schedule at numerous locations around Durham, including City Hall and Durham Station.
