Teen becomes Eagle Scout

CHAPEL HILL -- Jonathan Nabut, a 17-year-old senior at Durham School of the Arts, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He is the son of Cindy Nabut of Durham and Jose Nabut of Miami.

For his Eagle project, he built four raised garden beds for the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill. Nabut, a Durham resident, joined Troop 820 in Chapel Hill in 2003 and has held numerous leadership positions in the troop, including den chief, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and quartermaster. An Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's honor society, he, along with his patrol, has received the National Honor Patrol three times. He also has received troop fund-raising awards every year since 2007.

Deputies find 27-year-old man

HILLSBOROUGH -- A 27-year-old man who was reported missing in Orange County has been located, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office sent out a request Monday afternoon that anyone who knew the whereabouts of Joshua C. Hoyt to contact the Sheriff's Office because Hoyt hadn't been seen since Friday night.

On Tuesday morning, the Sheriff's Office reported Hoyt had been located.

Chapel Hill gets 'green' honor

CHAPEL HILL -- Chapel Hill was recently honored as a N.C. League of Municipalities Green Challenge municipality. It achieved "advanced level" status by completing specific activities and projects to save energy, natural resources and money.

The Green Challenge is designed to recognize municipalities for their efforts to incorporate environmental stewardship in local government services and community activities. The town was presented with the highest level of recognition for its efforts in the areas of:

n Energy Conservation (e.g., LED Streetlight project, LEED-based Energy Ordinance for Town Buildings, Green Fleets policy, anti-idling policies, etc.).

n Recycling (e.g., recycled paper policy for town operations, community curbside and town facilities collection services).

n Transportation (e.g., fare-free transit).

n Land use planning (e.g., promoting a mixture of uses, tree preservation, conservation easements).

n Innovation (e.g., fare-free transit partnership with Carrboro and UNC).

As a participant in the Green Challenge, the town serves as a mentor to other communities that are interested in implementing sustainability-related programs, policies and projects.

Price to host jobs roundtable

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. David Price, D- Chapel Hill, will host a jobs roundtable with House colleagues Brad Miller and Bob Etheridge and representatives from a broad cross-section of Triangle area industries at 11 a.m. Monday. The congressmen are seeking input from these business leaders about how far the local economy has come in the past year and their views on the current barriers to job creation.

Leaders from the homebuilding, high-tech, banking, small business, education, training and infrastructure sectors are expected to participate in the wide-ranging discussion, which will be hosted by MCNC in Building 3, Seminar Rooms A&B at its Research Triangle Park facility, 3021 E. Cornwallis Road.
