Streets to close for Saturday's parade

CHAPEL HILL -- Chapel Hill Transit will implement detours due to street closures as a result of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Holiday parade on Saturday.

The parade, presented by the Chapel Hill Jaycees, begins at 10 a.m. on East Franklin Street at the Morehead Planetarium, travels west, and ends at Carrboro Town Hall on Main Street. Music, dancing, community-sponsored floats, marching bands, Scout troops and more will be part of the activities. Awards will be given in several categories, including Most Original, Best Holiday Theme and Most Creative.

The following Saturday bus routes will be detoured/delayed as a result of the parade:

n CW (9:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.)

n FG route (8:30 a.m. until 11:10 a.m.)

n DM route (8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.)

n JN route (10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.)

n T route (8:15 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.)

n U route (will begin at 11:20 a.m. at the Carolina Coffee Shop)

n The Saturday CM and NU routes will be operate regular schedules.

Chapel Hill Transit will make every attempt to maintain schedules but advises customers to expect delays and to allow extra travel time due to the parade. While Chapel Hill Transit will attempt to operate normal printed schedules on all routes, delays may occur. Customers should plan to travel earlier than 10 a.m. and after noon to avoid parade traffic.
