Town of Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL -- The Town Council will gather for the post-election organizational meeting set for 7 p.m. Monday in Town Hall, 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Retired Judge Pat Devine of Judicial District 15B will administer the oath of office to Mayor-elect Mark Kleinschmidt, Council Member-elect Laurin Easthom, Council Member-elect Ed Harrison, Council Member-elect Gene Pease and Council Member-elect Penny Rich.

After the seating of the council, a resolution of appreciation will be read for Mayor Kevin C. Foy, who has been in office for four terms (since 2001) and before that served on the Town Council. In addition, resolutions of appreciation will be read for Councilman Jim Merritt and former council member Bill Strom.

The council established that a special meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday to hear presentations from those who applied for the council seat vacated by Strom. The council may consider the appointment to fill the council vacancy on Dec. 14.

The first regular business meeting of the council will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 11.

As with all council meetings, residents are welcome to attend. They also can watch regular council meetings from the comfort of their home -- or from anywhere in the world -- live by streaming video on the town website at www.townofchapelhill.org and also by cablecast on Chapel Hill TV 18 at 7 p.m. on the second, third, and fourth Mondays of most months.
