APS seeking dog, cat toys

DURHAM -- The Animal Protection Society of Durham/Durham County Animal Shelter, 2117 E. Club Blvd., is holding its annual "Toys for Tail" dog and cat toy donation drive.

APS is asking the public to donate dog and cat toys for its shelter animals which benefit from being given different toys every day.

Re-usable toys are particularly valuable.

To donate, place toys in any of many donation bin around town, including the shelter itself, Petco and a number of local veterinary offices.

Psychic talk set for Sunday

DURHAM -- The Rhine Research Center, 2741 Campus Walk, is hosting a discussion and exploration of psychic experiences running in families with Christine Simmons-Moore called "PSI and Evolution: Reconciling Evolutionary Theory with Paranormal Experiences."

The event will be held Sunday from 4-5:30 p.m. at the institute's Tanous Library.

Cost to the public is $10, but members can attend for free.

Mission founder featured guest

DURHAM -- The Rev. Ernie Mills, founder of the Durham Rescue Mission will be the featured speaker at the monthly A.I.R. (All Interested Republicans and Like Minded Conservatives) meeting Wednesday at Hope Valley Country Club, 3803 Dover Road.

The meeting's buffet luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. -- cost is $17 per person and the public is invited -- and will be followed by Mills' presentation.

Guests are also asked to donate the following items -- or cash:

n Canned goods, particularly meat, milk, vegetables and fruits.

n Paper goods, including disposable baby diapers, paper towels, facial tissue and baby wipes.

Reservations are required and may be made no later than noon Tuesday at (919) 384-2868.

Santa breakfast set for Dec. 12

CHAPEL HILL -- Resident physicians at UNC Hospitals are hosting their second annual Charity Breakfast Buffet with Santa on Dec. 12.

The charity event run from 8-11 a.m. at the Spice Street restaurant at University Mall, 201 S. Estes Drive, Chapel Hill.

Proceeds will be used to support the Ronald McDonald House, SECU Family House, the Food Bank and Toys for Tots.

Cost is $5 for children and $10 for adults.
