OXFORD -- A movie about the killing of black man in 1970 in Oxford and its effect on race relations in the Granville County city will be released in February, timed to coincide with Black History Month.
"Blood Done Sign My Name" will be released to about 100 screens nationwide on Feb. 19.
The movie is based on the book of the same name by Timothy B. Tyson, a Duke University senior research fellow, who grew up in Oxford.
Screenwriter Jeb Stuart, who wrote action films such as "Die Hard" and "The Fugitive," also directed "Blood Done Sign My Name." The movie will star Rick Schroeder and Nate Parker.
The film tells the story of the 1970 Oxford murder of Henry Marrow, a 23-year-old black employee of Umstead Hospital in Butner. The alleged killers, Robert Teel and his two sons, who were white, were eventually acquitted by an all white jury despite eyewitnesses to the murder.
