Break-in suspects have court date

PITTSBORO — Two Chatham County men charged in a rash of thefts are scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court on Monday.

Travis Anthony Harris, 25, of 1818 North Chatham Ave., Siler City, and Kevin Levon Causey, 27, of 265 Hyatt Court, Siler City, are charged with 10 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, three counts of felonious larceny of firearm, three counts of felonious identity theft , two counts of felonious larceny, two counts of unlawful obtaining credit card, felonious obtaining property by false pretense, five counts of felonious financial card theft and four counts of misdemeanor larceny. Harris was charged additionally with a probation violation.

Harris was jailed under a $131,000 secured bond, and Causey was jailed under an $80,000 secured bond.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office arrested the two men last week after several search warrants were served at residences near Siler City. Deputies and officers from the Siler City Police Department conducted a search of 104 Crest Court, Siler City, on Nov. 17 and recovered several thousand dollars in stolen property. Then on Nov. 20, deputies conducted another search operation at the same address as well as 2681 Hampstone Road and 86 West Shannon Drive in Siler City.

ATM robbery suspect charged

PITTSBORO — Matthew Moldenhauer, 23, of 611 Lystra Estates Drive, Chapel Hill, is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court on Monday to face charges that he robbed an ATM customer in Cole Park Plaza while threatening him with a broken bottle.

He was charged with felonious robbery with a dangerous weapon and communicating threats. He was jailed under a $35,000 secured bond.

Chatham County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Moldenhauer following a robbery at an ATM in northern Chatham County. A Pittsboro man reported to deputies around 5:50 p.m. last Tuesday that a white male robbed him of money using a broken bottle at the Cashpoints ATM. The man advised officers after the robbery that the suspect ran toward the road and got into a white truck. He provided the license plate number of the vehicle to deputies. No injuries were reported.

Officers arrived and tracked down the owner of the vehicle, who stated that he had picked up a friend on the road but knew nothing of a robbery. A few hours later, investigators found Moldenhauer hiding in a wooded area on River Forest Road about 4 miles from where the robbery occurred. He was arrested without incident.

Man jailed on assault charges

PITTSBORO — John Alston, 50, of 860 East Alston Road, was arrested Nov. 26 by Chatham County Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas Flint for assault on a female, assault by pointing a gun and assault with a deadly weapon. He was jailed under a $10,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 9.

Woman faces uttering charge

PITTSBORO — Ruth Edwards, 66, of 4775 Manns Chapel Road, Chapel Hill was arrested Nov. 28 by Chatham County Sheriff’s Cpl. Raymond Morgan for attempted uttering.

She was released under a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 16.

Man held on multiple charges

PITTSBORO — Raymond Edwards Sr., 68, of 4475 Manns Chapel Road, was arrested Nov. 28 by Chatham County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryser for communicating threats, escape from custody or resist arrest and assault of a government official.

He was jailed under a $1,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Dec. 16.
