Bell, Kastanek power Wolfpack women
NORFOLK, Va. -- Tia Bell and Marissa Kastanek each scored 12 points to send N.C. State to a 62-52 victory at Old Dominion on Monday night.
N.C. State (4-1) won its third straight by allowing a season-low 34.6 percent shooting percentage to Old Dominion (0-3).
After the Lady Monarchs cut their deficit down to just two points, 36-34, early in the second half, Brittany Strachan (four points, eight rebounds) capped a 10-2 run with a short baseline jumper for a 46-36 lead with 10 minutes to play.
The lead dwindled down to five with 3:25 to play after a Jackie Cook hoop, but N.C. State, the ACC's leading free throw shooters, made eight straight from the stripe, including six in a row by Lucy Ellison.
ODU wore pink jerseys to honor former Wolfpack coach Kay Yow.

No. 9 Xavier 92, Miss. Valley State 52
CINCINNATI -- Freshman Katie Rutan scored a career-high 17 points, and Xavier used its bench liberally.
The 92 points were Xavier's most in two years.
Xavier (3-0) was coming off a 13-point win over then-No. 14 Arizona State and had travel in mind when it took the court. The Musketeers had a 5 a.m. bus to the airport on Tuesday for a flight to the Bahamas, where they will play No. 18 Kansas in a tournament.
