'Hats Off to the Kids' Sunday

CHAPEL HILL -- "Hats Off to the Kids!" will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Old Well Room at The Carolina Inn. The event gives a chance to the community to celebrate the work being done to support the children of incarcerated women.

Hosted by Our Children's Place, the celebration allows guests to pick out their favorite handcrafted items, sample the afternoon treats provided by The Carolina Inn and celebrate and support the work being done to create a better life for young children whose mothers are incarcerated.

Guest Ashley Lucas will present a portion of "Doin' Time: Through the Visiting Glass," her performance looking at the lives of the families of prisoners.

Our Children's Place is a residential initiative allowing babies and preschoolers to live with their mothers while the women serve out their sentences for nonviolent offenses. It is designed to break the intergenerational cycle of crime, poverty, substance abuse and family violence.

Tickets are $25 each. Call Our Children's Place at (919) 843-2670 or e-mail ourchildrensplace@gmail.com.
