MORRISVILLE -- Ericsson might keep its facility in Research Triangle Park after all, but will still lay off all 180 workers by the end of the year, according to a company spokesman.

The Swedish telecommunications provider said Thursday that as a result of the company's recent $1.13 billion acquisition of Nortel's wireless technologies business units CDMA and LTE, the company will absorb 121 employees from Nortel in RTP.

Ericsson, which had some 180 employees at its facilities off Davis Drive in Morrisville, had originally planned to close the building and lay off all employees.

Director of Communications Jimmy Duvall said Thursday that Ericsson's employees will still be let go, and 121 workers from Nortel could be moved into the building or relocated elsewhere.

Ericsson shares a RTP campus with Sony Ericsson, which announced to employees this week that it will move North American headquarters to Atlanta and let go and relocate all employees.
