Duke students robbed Tuesday

DURHAM -- Two Duke University students were robbed at gunpoint early Tuesday morning.

The robbery was reported at 1:16 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Markham Avenue, according to Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

Two Duke students, a male and a female, were sitting in a vehicle when two men approached the passenger side of the vehicle, she said. One suspect pointed a gun and demanded money and car keys from the victims. The suspects took money but did not get the keys.

The robbers were interrupted when another vehicle turned onto Markham Avenue.

The suspects are described as two black men in their early 20s. They were both described as having medium builds and weighing between 140 and 150 pounds. One suspect was wearing dark jeans and a black hoodie and the second suspect was wearing dark jeans and a gray hoodie.

No arrests had been made as of Tuesday night. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.

Thefts reported

DURHAM -- More than $5,000 worth of property was stolen in a break-in at a home in the 2800 block of Catamount Court Thursday. Items include two laptop computers, a Wii video game console and games, a suitcase and two flat screen televisions. Total value of the items was $5,799.

In other crime:

- A man was robbed of $300 in the 1500 block of Holloway Street Sunday.

- Burglars hit a home in the 2400 block of Owen Street Friday and took a television and chain valued at $300.

- Someone stole two saws, a tool set, a Global Positioning System unit, sander and computer equipment from a car Friday in the 1200 block of Park Avenue. The property was valued at $2,855.
