Granville Lillie Mae Lloyd Connell

OXFORD -- Lillie Mae Lloyd Connell, age 95, died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Bayview Nursing Center in New Bern, N.C. She was a native of Granville Co. and was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Mamie Nevilles Lloyd. She was the widow of the late Joseph Clarence Connell. Mrs. Connell was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and lived in Oxford most of her life.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Neil Woodlief. Burial will be in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are one son, Cleveland E. Connell and wife Betty of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Rachel Connell Sugg of New Bern; a sister Barbara Lloyd Walls of Forest City, N.C.; grandchildren, Donna Connell Chance and husband, Chris of Richmond, Va. Lisa Connell Reddy and husband, Colonel Peter Reddy of San Diego, Calif., Joseph Thomas Sugg, Lindsey Connell Sugg and wife Susan of New Bern, N.C. and Sarah Sugg Dudley and husband, Tim Dudley of Vanceboro, N.C.; nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Thomas Sugg; brothers, William Maurice "Tot" Lloyd and Herbert Weldon Lloyd and a sister, Pearl Lloyd Dean.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Corinth Baptist Church, c/o Frank Schmidt, 3639 Hwy 96 South, Oxford, N.C. 27565.

Michael Edward Cox

HILLSBOROUGH -- Michael Edward Cox, 40, 5705 Briana Lane, Rougemont, died Saturday, November 14, 2009, in Duke Medical Center. He was born in Person County. He attended the Person County and Orange County schools. He worked with his father in the Eddie Cox Landscaping business before becoming disabled.

Surviving are his wife, Christal Laws Cox; one son, Nicholas Cox, Rougemont; one daughter, Kaitlyn Cox, Rougemont; maternal grandmother, Frances Laws Hawkins Day, Oxford; and two uncles, Phillilp Hawkins, Oxford, and Wade Hawkins, Oxford. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his parents Mary Thomas Hawkins and Eddie A. Cox.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Walker's Funeral Home Chapel by he Rev. Jon Faucette. Burial will be in New Bethel United Methodist Cemetery.
