JACKSONVILLE -- Cedar Ridge held the past two prolific running backs it faced in check, but that wasn't the case Saturday against Jacksonville Northside's Adrian Scott.

Scott, a 2,000-yard rusher this season, finished with 208 and a pair of touchdowns to lead Northside to a 34-7 victory in the opening round of the state 2-AA playoffs.

The Red Wolves had contained Northwood's Shane Peppers and South Granville's Ian Bosley, but Scott ripped off scoring runs of 26 and 51 yards along the way.

Northside's B.J. White also had a big day rushing with 101 yards and a 22-yard touchdown late in the game.

"They were straightforward," Cedar Ridge coach Lou Geary said. "They were going to line up and run it. [Scott] was a tough running back. He was hard to bring down. We weren't able to gang tackle him like we were Peppers and Bosley."

Northside (9-3) built a 14-0 lead before Phillip Chalmers returned a kickoff 87 yards in the second quarter for the only score by Cedar Ridge (7-5).
