UNC Postgame
Kendric Burney, UNC cornerback
The junior shattered multiple records as he recorded three interceptions and returned them for a total of 170 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown. In one game he broke UNC's record for interception return yardage for an entire season and became UNC's all-time leader in interception return yards.
PLAY OF THE GAME
Burney returned his third interception 45 yards before fumbling the ball to teammate Melvin Williams, who then bolted into the end zone. The play was upheld after a review, even though it looked like Burney had pitched the ball forward, to give the Tar Heels a 30-17 lead and the momentum.
STAT OF THE GAME
UNC's defense, which is ranked fifth in the nation, picked off Miami quarterback Jacory Harris four times and returned those interceptions for a total of 214 yards. Two of those interceptions accounted for two of three of UNC's touchdowns.
WHAT THIS WIN MEANS
The Tar Heels became bowl eligible with the victory and will be going to their second consecutive bowl game for the first time since the 1992-98 seasons. It also showed that UNC coach Butch Davis has Miami's number as he improved to 3-0 against his former team.
