Back to Bach
“Aliénor Concert Back to Bach and Beyond: Redefining the Harpsichord” will be presented at 8 tonight at University United Methodist Church, 150 E. Franklin St., Chapel Hill.
Harpsichordists Elaine Funaro and Beverly Biggs of Durham, along with Rebecca Pechefsky of New York City will play Bach selections with the accompaniment of a quintet of baroque string players. Showcased will be the sonata for two and three harpsichords by Aliénor winning composer Edwin McLean of Chapel Hill. The concert will also be the unveiling of master harpsichord builder Richard Kingston’s final career instrument, Opus 333.

intimacies
20 Years ago, Michael Kearns wrote and performed a landmark theatrical piece: “intimacies.” A panoply of characters who speak with abandon, “intimacies” is theatre that promises to rock you. Michael Kearns kicks off his anniversary tour of “intimacies” focusing on World AIDS Day-at the ArtsCenter, 300-G E Main St., Carrboro, with shows at 8 p.m. today and Saturday.

Music at the Galleries
Performance from The Long-Short Quartet, UNC Chapel Hill’s premier student string quartet, will be presented from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Ackland Art Museum, 101 South Columbia St., Chapel Hill.
The concert will feature works by Beethoven, Brahms and Haydn performed by Cindy Burton (violin), Sara Soltau (violin), Grace Kennerly (viola), and Emma Dunlap-Grube (cello).

Trip Fives. Quintets of Mozart, Mendelssohn and Brahms, Carolina Wind Quintet, UNC string faculty and Stefan Litwin, piano, will be showcased at 3 p.m. Sunday in Gerrard Hall on the UNC Campus in Chapel Hill.

A Time for Singing
