DURHAM -- Preservation Durham will hold its seventh annual Preservation Party from 6-9:30 p.m. Friday at Morgan Imports, 113 S. Gregson St., to raise funds and awareness for the organization's work.
Founded in 1974, nonprofit Preservation Durham is dedicated to preserving the cultural and architectural history the city and county.
Preservation Durham joins merchants from Peabody Place and Brightleaf Square in a celebration that includes holiday shopping, a silent auction with more than 50 items and free food and music. Morgan Imports, will donate 10 percent of all sales Friday evening to the Historic Preservation Society of Durham.
Several of the silent auction items are historical items from the Durham area.
"This is an exciting time for our organization -- and for our city," said John Compton, Preservation Durham executive director. "There is a renewed interest in restoring, preserving and renovating Durham, but we still need continued awareness and support for our historic neighborhoods and lesser-known landmarks."
This year's auction items include consultations for interior design, garden design, "greening" your home, and fitness as well as UNC Chapel Hill basketball tickets, weekends at the beach and more.
Advance tickets for the 2010 Spring Home Tour of Hope Valley will also be available.
"This celebration with our community of business owners and residents will highlight the Brightleaf Square area, one of Durham's treasured landmarks." added Kimberly Isley, Preservation Party Committee co-chairwoman. "We thank all the business owners in the Downtown District for keeping our past alive. We are especially grateful for the financial support from our sponsors and from Morgan Imports ..."
