DURHAM -- Local agencies are hosting a landlord training workshop from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today at City Hall, 101 City Hall Plaza.
The workshop is designed to assist landlords, property managers, resident managers, and any others involved in managing rental housing. It will demonstrate effective property management practices to significantly contribute to safe and decent housing as well as provide successful techniques on how to halt illegal activity on rental properties.
On-site registration is available. Cost of the one-day workshop is $30 per person. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
Walltown Rec Center meeting
DURHAM -- St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, 917 Onslow St., will host a Walltown Park Recreation Center programming meeting at 10 a.m. today.
Neighborhood churches, groups, students, parents and children in particular are encouraged to come and offer input to Durham Parks and Recreation staff members relating to programming activities at the new Walltown Recreation Center.

Parkwood UMC talent night set
DURHAM -- The Parkwood United Methodist Church Youth Fellowship will host "Talent Night @ the Coffee House" at Parkwood United Methodist Church, 5123 Revere Road on Sunday at 6 p.m.
Admission is by donation, with proceeds benefitting the church's general fund. The public is invited to attend.
Legal questions to be answered
DURHAM -- Volunteers from the nonprofit Legal Aid of North Carolina will answer questions from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today about how to access free legal services.
The free, public event will take place at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St.
Also, library employees will demonstrate how to sign up for a free e-mail account and share information about how to sign up for a library card. Children's books, donated during a Legal Aid book drive, will be given to children.

Volunteers being sought
DURHAM -- The Durham Community Land Trustees' fifth Annual Make A Difference Day will be held from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. today.
It was postponed from Oct. 24 because of rain.
Volunteers are asked to wear gloves and work shoes and meet at DCLT headquarters, 1208 W. Chapel Hill St., at 8:30 a.m. for breakfast and to sign-in.
DCLT will celebrate the national day of community service by organizing community clean-ups and home improvement projects in Durham's South-West Central neighborhoods including Burch Avenue, Lyon Park, and the West End.
