Urban Ministries breakfast slated

DURHAM -- Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD) will hold its annual "Rebuilding Lives Breakfast" on from 7:30-8:45 a.m. Nov. 19 at the Washington Duke Inn on N.C. 751 on Duke University's West Campus.

UMD is a community-based organization that provides emergency services such as food, clothing, shelter and supportive services to people in need in Durham. The annual breakfast brings together the businesses, foundations, communities of faith and individuals who have supported UMD over the last year as well as those interested in supporting it in the future.

The breakfast will showcase the challenges UMD faced during the past year and how it is continuing to improve the lives of those in need in the community.

Last year UMD provided shelter to 1,956 men, women and children, 32 percent more than the previous year. Its Community Cafe served 197,800 meals, a 10 percent increase. The cafe is serving close to 700 meals per day. UMD's food pantry also had a 29 percent increase and distributed 45,300 pounds of food to people in need. UMD distributed almost 32,000 articles of clothing.

Anyone interested in becoming a donor or volunteer who would like to attend the breakfast can e-mail Richard Morin at morin@braethenaccounting.com to confirm space availability.
