CNN host to speak at Duke

DURHAM -- Fareed Zakaria, editor of Newsweek International, columnist and host of CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS," will speak at Duke University on Monday about the rapidly changing international climate.

Zakaria will present the 2009 Ambassador S. Davis Phillips Lecture in Page Auditorium beginning at 5:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.

In his recent national bestseller, "The Post-American World," Zakaria writes about the "rise of the rest" -- the growth of China, India, Brazil and many other countries -- and what it means for the future. He calls this phenomenon "the greatest story of our time."

Peter Feaver, a Duke professor of political science and public policy, said Zakaria "has an exceptional capacity to analyze broad trends in a fashion that influences the global public conversation."

Tickets will be distributed at the door starting at 4:45 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.

A limited number of general seating tickets are available through the Duke Box Office at (919) 684-4444 or online at www.tickets.duke.edu.

Tickets purchased online include a $5 handling fee.

Kids can vote today, too

DURHAM -- Durham's young people cast a ballot for mayor and City Council --just like the adults -- at a Kids Voting booth at Durham polling sites today.

Even if their families have participated in early voting, students can visit a precinct with a Kids Voting booth and cast their own ballot.

Middle- and high-school students can vote online at www.kidsvotingdurham.org. Anyone under age 18 can vote at a Kids Voting booth or online.

Youth and adult groups such as Yo!Durham, Jr. Leadership Durham 4-H Club, Jordan High School, Trinity Park & Forest Hills Neighborhood Associations, Shepard Middle School, Club Elementary, and Central Park School for Children are pitching in to staff precinct booths. Several Durham schools are also holding Kids Voting Elections for their students.
