RALEIGH -- State officials are seeking public comments on whether 22 communities in the Broad, Chowan, Pasquotank and Neuse river basins should be required to implement more stringent controls to prevent stormwater pollution.
The state Division of Water Quality is considering stormwater measures for the communities and nearby areas to limit stormwater pollution, a leading cause of stream impairment in the state.
Among the 22 communities that are candidates for being added to the Phase II stormwater program are Butner, Creedmoor, Roxboro and Stem from the Neuse River Basin.
Maps of the areas potentially affected by designation under the phase II program can be found at: http://h2o.enr.state.nc.us/su/2009PhII_Designation_Candidates.htm.
Comments must be received by Nov. 30. Submit comments to: DWQ Stormwater Permitting Unit, 1617 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C. 27699-1617, attn: Mike Randall or Bethany Georgoulias or to Mike.Randall@ncdenr.gov or Bethany.Georgoulias@ncdenr.gov.

Unborn victims cause supported
CHAPEL HILL -- Three families of North Carolina murder victims will speak in support of the proposed state Unborn Victims of Violence Act at the Chapel Hill Public Library, 100 Library Drive, Chapel Hill, at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The proposed act would recognize, in law, the unborn child as a second victim when a pregnant woman and her unborn baby are murdered, allowing the state to prosecute for two murders instead of one.
