The 23rd N.C. Latin American Film Festival will include screenings of feature length movies, documentaries, animation, short movies and video art from the Americas. This year the festival presents films from 12 countries, and 11 filmmakers will introduce their films and talk about their experiences of working in the region.

The festival begins Sunday and continues through Nov. 22 at various venues in Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Greensboro. (See schedule for Durham and Chapel Hill screenings. Other information is at http://latinfilmfestilvanc.com.)

All festival activities are free and open to the public.

The festival is organized by the Consortium in Latin American and Caribbean Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University.

This year the festival features 34 films.

Below are some highlights. (Synopses provided by the festival.)

n "Which Way Home" by Rebecca Cammisa (USA-Mexico, 2009). An official selection at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival and the 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival, this film follows several unaccompanied child migrants as they journey through Mexico en route to the U.S. on a freight train called "The Beast."

n "CHE" (Parts 1 and 2) by Steven Soderbergh. (Spain-France-USA, 2008). This film narrates the story of one of the most popular revolutionary icons of the 20th century. Both parts are shot in a cin
