Falcons, Wildcats win PAC-6 titles

DURHAM -- Jordan and East Chapel Hill prevailed in the PAC-6 cross country championship meet at Riverside on Tuesday.

Jordan took the boys' title, edging Northern by six points and East Chapel Hill by nine.

Northern's Blake Williams took the individual title in a time of 16:55. Genesis Henderson of Hillside came in second in a time of 17:20. Chris Barron led the way for the Falcons, coming in third with a time of 17:40.

Joining Barron in the top 10 for Jordan were Darren Oaforge in seventh (18:41), Sam Peters in ninth (18:51) and Aaron Taylor in 10th (18:55).

East Chapel Hill had three runners in the top 10, led by David Calderon-Guthe in fourth (18:05), Sam Minor in fifth (18:16) and Matt Wilson in eighth (18:46).

On the girls side, East Chapel Hill ran a dominating race, easily outdistancing Jordan and Northern.

ECH took six of the top eight spots, led by winner Carolyn Baskir (18:49), Allison Smith in second (20:32), Maggie Meshuick in fourth (21:27), Claire Gildard in fifth (21:30), Pagha Kamraus in sixth (21:33) Katie Saftrit in eighth (21:44).

Samantha Ray of Jordan finished second in a time of 20:53.

n In the Carolina 6 championship meets, the Chapel Hill swept the boys' and girls' races.

Paul Noah finished third overall in a time of 16:12 to lead Chapel Hill, which had seven of the top-nine finishers. Asher Colburn-Hertzberg was fourth (16:19), Jacob Hoerger was fifth (16:20), Liam Stott was sixth (16:21), Kyle Villemain finished eighth (16:26) and Danny Philips was ninth (16:29).

Orange's Dylan Skinner finished seventh (16:24).

In the girls' race, Tristan Van Ord was the winner for Chapel Hill in a time of 19:04. Chapel Hill also had three others in the top-10. Sarah Jane Kerwin was third (19:27), Meg Duffy was ninth (19:54) and Ahna Weeks finished 10th (20:01).

Orange, which finished third overall, had three runners in the top-10, led by Mackenzie Robinson in fourth (19:29), Indy Reid-Shaw in fifth (19:31) and Devon Allen in eighth (19:53).

Ron Olsen of Chapel Hill was selected Carolina 6 coach of the year.

Runners with qualifying times next will run at the regionals on Oct. 31 in Cary at the WRAL Soccer Complex.
