Orange 35, Webb 9

HILLSBOROUGH -- Drevis Torain scored a pair of touchdowns to lead Orange by Oxford Webb.

Torain had touchdown runs of 28 and four yards and finished with 137 yards on 18 carries as the Panthers (5-3, 2-0 Carolina 6 3-A) remained unbeaten in conference play.

Torain gave Orange the lead with his first scoring run and then Donovan McCulley followed it with a 43-yard touchdown reception from Fred Blanks to make it 14-0.

Webb got a 23-yard field goal from D.L. Howard just before halftime after having a drive stall at the Orange 6.

In the second half, Orange got touchdowns from John Kenion on a five-yard rush, Torain and from Lorenzo Evans.

Chapel Hill 21, Northern Vance 7

HENDERSON -- Chapel Hill took advantage of turnovers and mistakes by Northern Vance to escape with a 21-7 victory.

Up by a touchdown but allowing Northern Vance to drive in the fourth quarter, Chapel Hill came up with a big stop and turned it into points and the clinching touchdown. Russell Suitt scooped up a fumble by Marcus Hargrove and raced back 55 yards for a Tiger touchdown that gave Chapel Hill its victory margin.

After playing a scoreless opening quarter, Northern Vance took the lead on a 54-yard touchdown run by Eric Jeffries midway through the second quarter.

From there, Chapel Hill was able to fight back.

The Tigers tied the game at the 2:28 minute mark of the second quarter on a Daniel Watson six-yard run. Watson ran for 177 yards on 17 carries.

Chapel Hill went ahead 14-7 on the last play of the third quarter when quarterback Stephen Wistner connected with Eddie Burgard for a 70-yard touchdown down the right sideline.

East Chapel Hill 24, Northern 21

CHAPEL HILL -- East Chapel Hill rallied from 14-point second half deficit to beat Northern 24-21 on a 50-yard field goal by Thomas Moore with 15 seconds left in the game.

The Wildcats (1-7, 1-2 PAC-6) got their first win, while Northern (0-9, 0-4) remained winless.

Aquez Willis gave East Chapel Hill a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter with a 15-yard run.

Northern responded with three touchdowns in the second quarter to take what appeared to be a commanding lead as Xavier Taylor scored on a four-yard run and quarterback Andy Henry connected twice with Nick Warren on scoring passes of six and nine yard. But it wasn't as the Knights failed to score the rest of the way.

Willis struck again when he hauled in a 25 yard pass from Drew Davis to bring the Wildcats within a score with just over three minutes left in the third quarter.

CARRBORO -- Shane Peppers exploded for 414 yards rushing and seven touchdowns on 28 carries, leading Northwood to a big win to stay perfect.

Peppers scored on runs of 1, 55, 4, 63, 74, 51, 4 and 40 yards. Sam Griffin also scored a rushing touchdown for the Chargers, as well as connecting on a 43-yard scoring pass with Ridge Smith.

Carrboro's Derek Bryant connected on 26 of 54 passes for 326 yards. He rushed for two scores and threw for two more.

STEM -- Cedar Ridge kept Granville Central winless with a 28-point second quarter outburst as the Red Wolves won their conference opener.

Phillip Chalmers scored a pair of touchdowns on rushes of three and 30 yards and finished with 77 yards on eight carries for Cedar Ridge. Brent Burnette led the Red Wolves with 96 yards on 13 carries and also had touchdown.
