CHAPEL HILL -- The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce will host its economic outlook breakfast from 7:30 to 7:30 a.m. Nov. 5 at Spice Street.
The event is $20 per person and includes a full breakfast.
N.C. State University economist Mike Walden is the guest speaker for the first-ever Economic Outlook Breakfast. He will talk about the national and local economies and what businesses can expect in 2010. Walden is widely known for his ability to relate larger economic trends to individual consumers and is frequently quoted by The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe and The Washington Post.
With 2009, and one of the worst recessions on record nearly over, according to some economists, Walden will discuss how consumer choices are affecting the local economy and what's in store for the year ahead.
Sale of bagels to raise funds

Brewery signs distribution deal
CHAPEL HILL -- Carolina Brewery, the Triangle's oldest brewery, has signed a distribution deal with Harris Inc. to enable wider availability of its award-winning, craft-brewed beers in bars, restaurants, grocery stores and other retail accounts in the Triangle area. Harris will distribute Carolina Brewery beers by the keg to bars and restaurants to serve on tap and in 64-ounce glass growlers to retail and grocery.
"We are very excited about our new partnership with Harris Inc.," said Carolina Brewery owner Robert Poitras. "Jay and his team are fully committed to growing the distribution of our products."
Already the distribution deal has resulted in Carolina Brewery beer being sold for the first time at Harris Teeter grocery stores and served on tap at Maggianos Little Italy, Wyndham Garden Hotel and a host of other area bars and restaurants.
"Our goal is to be able to bring first in class, local, craft beer to our customers," said Jay Harris, president of Harris Inc. "The growler program allows those who love Carolina's draft beers to now be able to take it home and the recyclable glass is a win-win for the consumer and the environment."
Harris Inc. will be focusing on the distribution of thee signature Carolina Brewery beers -- Sky Blue Golden Ale, Flagship IPA and Copperline Amber Ale -- along with several seasonal beers that will only be available for a limited time.
Deli is now baking bread
CHAPEL HILL -- Mediterranean Deli has opened a bakery and remodeled its dining room.
The restaurant now bakes fresh pita bread and Middle Eastern daily using local certified organic flour from Lindley Mills in Graham. It also has a newly expanded menu. Ad agency will sponsor ball
CHAPEL HILL -- Jennings, the Chapel Hill branding and advertising agency, is sponsoring the Morehead Planetarium's annual Jupiter Ball. This is the second year that Jennings has worked with the Morehead Planetarium to promote the event. The Jupiter Ball is an annual black-tie gala for Morehead Planetarium and Science Center to support science education across North Carolina.
Jennings is donating marketing and promotional support for the event including: designing print materials, generating e-mail blasts, creating invitations, and maintaining a splash page for the online auction.
Jennings' Chief Operating Officer Paige Zinn is co-chair of the Jupiter Ball this year. She has been on the planning committee for three years.
"The planetarium is a valuable part of our community because it is educating our youth in exciting and innovative ways, and we're thrilled to support its mission," Zinn said.
On Saturday the Jupiter Ball had an online auction for the first time to accompany the pre-existing silent auction. Proceeds from the event will support installation of state-of-the-art planetarium technology and fellowships for deserving UNC at Chapel Hill undergraduate interns.
