Duke and North Carolina both pulled off big wins Saturday, while N.C. Central still is searching for its first victory of the season.
The Blue Devils recorded a lopsided upset win against rival N.C. State, as they outlasted the Wolfpack 49-28 in a game that went back and forth in the first half. Duke snapped an 11-game losing streak to N.C. State and earned its first ACC road win in almost six years.
Quarterback Thad Lewis was the hero for the Blue Devils, slicing apart the Wolfpack defense for a career-high of 459 yards and five touchdowns.
UNC bounced back from a two-game losing streak with a 42-12 rout of Georgia Southern, a Football Championship Subdivision team. The Tar Heels' defense, which is ranked No. 8 in the nation, forced six turnovers to lead the way.
NCCU led Appalachian State 14-7 in the first quarter Saturday but wound up losing 55-21 in Boone. The Mountaineers put up 644 yards of offense on the Eagles, the most ever allowed by a NCCU team.
