DURHAM -- Police arrested two break-in suspects after shooting one of them with rubber bullets during a standoff Friday at a home on Four Seasons Drive.
The suspect who was shot was not injured, according to Cpl. Marty Walkowe of the Durham Police Department.
About 11:21 a.m., police got a call about a home being broken into at 3705 Four Seasons Drive. When they arrived, they saw movement inside the home.
"Patrol officers attempted to talk them out immediately, and they didn't have any success,'' Walkowe said.
Selective Enforcement Team members arrived and eventually fired two rubber bullets at one of the suspects, he said, hitting him in the leg and hip. The other suspect wasn't shot.
"I don't think either [bullet] was effective,'' Walkowe said. "I know the first one wasn't effective, because they had to shoot him a second time.''
Walkowe said no one was taken hostage and the house was empty except for the two suspects.
They were identified as Jose Marquet Simpson, 22, and Christopher Krone, 21, both of Durham. It could not immediately be determined which man was shot.
Both men were being questioned at the police substation at Pilot and Fayetteville streets Friday afternoon and hadn't been charged, he said.
Walkowe said the Four Seasons Drive house is "within one mile'' of Hillside High School.
He said it wasn't clear what property, if any, the suspects allegedly were trying to steal.
Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to call the Durham Police Department's Investigative Unit at 560-4415 or CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felonies and callers do not have to identify themselves.
