CHAPEL HILL -- The UNC Chapter of Youth for Western Civilization is hosting former Reagan administration member Angela "Bay" Buchanan in a lecture titled "Reintroducing Free Speech On Campus With an Indictment Against Illegal Immigration," at 8 p.m. today in the UNC Chapel Hill Student Union Auditorium, 209 South Road.
Buchanan began her political career as the national treasurer of Ronald Reagan's presidential campaigns in 1980 and 1984. This position catapulted her into a distinguished career beginning in 1981 when President Reagan appointed her to be Treasurer of the United States, under the Secretary of the Treasury.
At 32, she was the youngest person ever named to that position.
This past election cycle, she served as chairman of Tom Tancredo's presidential campaign and then as a senior adviser to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
The Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute named her its 2007 Woman of the Year.
Buchanan is president of The American Cause, an educational foundation dedicated to advancing traditional conservative issues; and chairman of Team America, a political action committee dedicated to opposing amnesty for illegal aliens.
She is also active as a political commentator on a variety of national television and cable networks.
