Gospel group to perform at St. Titus
DURHAM -- The Mighty Gospel Inspirations will perform during the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday at St. Titus Episcopal Church, 400 Moline St.
The Might Gospel Inspirations include brothers Mike and Kenneth Sanders, Larry Perry, James Bailey, Robert Waldrop and administrator Rome Hemingway. Combined, they bring more than 160 years of singing energy and performing experience from a variety of groups and musical styles. They focus on traditional quartet style a capella gospel reminiscent of the 1940s and 1950s.
Amity UMC offering Microsoft classes
CHAPEL HILL -- Amity United Methodist Church, 825 N. Estes Drive, is offering classes on Microsoft Office for three Saturdays this month.
The first class will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and will be an introduction to Microsoft Word. Classes will be held at the same time Oct. 17 about Microsoft Excel and Oct. 31 about PowerPoint. Bring your own laptop. Instructor Anh Gibbs will have one or two Macs to share.

Groups to consecrate new forest burial site
EcoEternity Forest and the North Carolina United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries will start a green burial concept called EcoEternity Forest at Chestnut Ridge in Orange County. The area will be consecrated on Sunday.
In an EcoEternity Forest, the forest floor under mature forest trees are chosen as dedicated, final resting places for the cremated ashes of individuals, families or friends. Families may select a memorial tree where they will can be interred to create a Family Reunion Tree.
There are also Community Trees for those one or two people to be buried under along with other community members. Friendship Trees are available for churches, friends and community groups. Small memorial plaques are attached to the trees.

Health seminar at Epworth UMC
DURHAM -- In conjunction with its Wonderful Wednesday suppers, Epworth United Methodist Church, 3002 Hope Valley Road, will host a free mental and heart health seminar at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Part of its "A Healthier You" series, this seminar is sponsored by the UNC Wellness Center. Clinical nurse specialist Janet Baradell is the guest speaker. The community is invited. Even though walk-ins are welcome, call the church office to make a reservation.
The weekly supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. and includes ziti, salad and dessert. It costs $4 for adults, $2 for students and children, and free for children 4 and under. Fun activities will be provided for children who attend with an adult. Reservations for dinner and/or nursery care are needed by 5 p.m. Monday.

Learning about Episcopalians
DURHAM -- St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1737 Hillandale Road, will offer a seven-week series on the practice of Christian faith in context of 21st century questions.
St. Luke's will present Via Media, a contemporary series of faith-based dinner table discussions from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays Oct. 19 through Nov. 30. The program is open to anyone who has ever been curious or interested in the Episcopal/Anglican tradition in an open and inclusive environment.
St. Luke's encourages people to bring their ideas and questions, and it will provide the informational resources for those seeking a spiritual community to enter both the journey and the conversation.
The Via Media Project's objective is to further North Carolina Diocese Bishop Michael Curry's call to create a place where "All Are Welcome."
The basic principles of Christianity through the Anglican approach will be presented through video, written materials, and small and large group discussion.
The total price for seven dinners and the Via Media events is $30 for members of St. Luke's and $15 for guests. Child care will be available.

St. Mary's Chapel history program
HILLSBOROUGH -- The 250th Anniversary observance of St. Mary's Chapel in Orange County continues with a special program Oct. 24, "Lost to Memory: Questions raised by the roads around St. Mary's Chapel."
Tom Magnuson will present his findings about the chapel site and use of roads and pathways around it at 10 a.m. Oct. 24. Magnuson is the founder and CEO of the Trading Path Association and a visiting scholar of the UNC Center for Southern Studies.
The talk will be the cafeteria building of the Master Garden's Preschool adjacent to the chapel at 7500 Schley Road, Hillsborough. St. Mary's Chapel is located near the intersection of St. Mary's, Pleasant Green, and Schley roads. For more information, call the Rev. Brooks Graebner at 732-9308.
