HILLSBOROUGH -- With their second overtime win in three weeks, the Cedar Ridge Red Wolves improved their record to 5-2 with a 20-14 homecoming victory over the visiting Oxford Webb Warriors on Friday night.
After stopping Webb running back Trevor White -- who ran free in the first half and finished with 117 yards on the ground -- on a fourth-and-goal option in the extra period, the Red Wolves handed the ball to fullback Jake Geary from the 4-yard line.
He powered his way through the Webb front seven to find himself in the end zone for the second time, giving his team the victory.
"That's something to remember, right there," Geary said. "We knew could get it in there once we stopped them on defense."
Geary almost didn't get the chance to win the game, though. It was close to being wide receiver Josh Pappas' moment, had Cedar Ridge coach Lou Geary called the fade he was thinking about sending in.
"Even Josh Pappas said, 'Just give it to Jake,'" Coach Geary said. "That's pretty good when a teammate wants to see [someone else score]."
The Warriors jumped out to a 14-0 lead that looked like it was going to last until halftime. But that's when Pappas, along with help from his brother --sophomore quarterback Cam -- changed everything.
After a 50-yard kickoff return by Philip Chalmers, the Pappas brothers cut into the Webb lead with a 41-yard pitch and catch.
