Minority Enterprise Development Week will take place a week from now in downtown Durham.

Special events during Oct. 5-9 include a "Green Economy" workshop, awards luncheon, a multicultural business after-hours reception, a Statewide Uniform Certification Workshop, a business trade fair and "Shop a Minority Business Day."

This year's theme is "Energizing the American Economy with Minority Business Enterprises."

The awards luncheon will be 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Durham Convention Center. Cost: $25 per person.

The lunch's feature guest speaker will be Patricia Hanes, the Atlanta regional director of the Minority Business Development Agency for the U.S. Department of Commerce.

n Glenn McCoy has been appointed chief financial officer of RBC Bank in Raleigh.

As CFO, McCoy will lead the finance division in developing key strategic performance targets.

"Glenn brings deep industry knowledge to RBC Bank and is the right person to help us increase efficiencies and prepare for future growth," said Scott Custer, CEO of RBC. "We are excited to have him joining our team."

McCoy joins RBC Bank after 28 years with Wachovia Corporation and First Union, where he was most recently CFO of the Mortgage and Retail Credit division.

n Dave Ensor, a senior fellow at RTI International, has received a Meritorious Service Award by the American National Standards Institute in recognition of his contributions to ANSI and to the voluntary standardization community.

Ensor is a contributor to and leader in the ANSI-accredited U.S. technical advisory group on nanotechnology standards and serves as a U.S. delegate to international ISO nanotechnology standards meetings. The ANSI award will be presented to Ensor at a ceremony Oct. 6 in Bethesda, Md.

n Richard Woods, chief operating officer of Hamilton Point Investment Advisors LLC, an independent portfolio management firm in Chapel Hill, has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Before co-founding Hamilton Point, Woods was a senior manager of Finance Deal Analysis for CNN Worldwide.

n Two local sales personnel for d'essence, a direct selling company of luxury perfume, achieved the company's President's Club status recently.

The company treated Linda Brown of Durham and Ken Davis of Chapel Hill, along with nine other sales consultants nationwide, to a five-day, all expenses paid vacation to the Fairmont Kea Lani resort in Maui, Hawaii.

To be awarded the trip for two, a consultant must have made a certain amount of personal sales, recruited new consultants and have the new recruits generate sales within the past year.

n The N.C. Home Builders Association has announced the winners of the annual STARS Awards.

Categories included marketing and advertising, Web design, landscape design, interior merchandising, architecture/floor plans and special projects. Awards were also given to local home builders associations.

The coveted Master Planned Community of the Year Award went to Impact Properties Group of Cary for its South Lakes community in Fuquay-Varina. Tammie Smoot of Move Inc. was named the Distinguished Associate of the Year.

STARS Awards went to 54 recipients, including the following local businesses and HBAs:

n For the Outstanding Achievement Awards, Best Single Family Detached Home with a sales price of $500,000-$750,000 -- J.D. Mahoney Inc. for the Villa Sienna at Briar Chapel in Chapel Hill
